The winning hands of poker

Out of the fifty-two card deck used in a poker game, the Ace is the highest card followed by King, Queen, Jack, Ten, Nine, Eight and so on down to the Two, known as a Deuce. The top five hands are as thus:

At the numero uno position is the ‘Five of a kind, in case a joker or wild card is used. The five aces (including the joker) is the best possible hand.

The next best possible hand is the ‘Straight Flush i.e. five consecutive cards of the same suit. The combination of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten of the same suit is the highest possible straight flush and is termed as the Royal Flush. For the uninitiated, the ‘Suits are spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds.

If you want to win a game of poker online, you need to know what is termed as a winning combination. In other words, how hands are listed, from the best to the worst, is what you need to master. This, in fact, is a pre-requisite to learning how to play poker.

Third on the podium is the ‘Four of a Kind, i.e. four cards of the same rank plus any fifth card. As common sense would say, higher ranks are better, therefore four eights would beat four threes.

Then comes the ‘Full House which houses three cards of the same rank. The remaining cards are a pair of another rank. Again the higher ranking three cards decide which full house wins, therefore 88855 beats 333AA.

At the fifth slot is the ‘Flush which has five cards of the same suit. Say for instance a Nine, eight, seven, six, five of hearts. The Flush is ranked in the descending order, therefore a KQJ85 would beat 97643.
